Saturday at AT&T Stadium was a familiar match between Galena Park North Shore and Duncanville. These two have played each other in the 6A Division I state title game three of the last 4 years with North Shore winning the first two meetings. Saturday was the same result as the Mustangs defeated Duncanville 17-10 to win their third state championship in the last four years.

North Shore Head Football Coach John Kay knew, “It would be a slugfest” Saturday against the well coached Panthers. It definitely was that with the game going down to the last 2 minutes.

North Shore used a balanced offensive attack and a defense that limited big plays from the Panthers offense. Freshman Quarterback Kaleb Bailey the games Offensive MVP, had 161 total yard of offense and 2 touchdown passes to lead the Mustangs to victory. Bailey connected with his brother Jhalyn Bailey for the first points of the game for a 3-yard

touchdown. He connected in the 4th quarter with David Amador for a 39-yard touchdown that ended up being the game winning touchdown.

Duncanville led had it chances to take the lead and win, but couldn’t capitalize off on a few key opportunities in all three phases of the game. Running Back Malachi Medlock had a big day on the ground with 114 yards. Quarterback Solomon James threw for 74 yards, but was under constant pressure from the Mustang defense all night. Arkansas signee Jordan Crook ended his career scoring the Panthers first touchdown on a 1-yard run. Crook contributed 10 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, and a sack.

The North Shore defense was led by Defensive MVP Ronald Wilson, who had 6.5 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks. Texas A&M commit Denver Davis, Caleb Flagg, Kent Battle, and Jayven Anderson all had big games for the Mustang defense. Anderson had the game sealing interception that ended Duncanville’s hope of a comeback.

Both teams finish the season at 15-1. The real question is, will there be a rematch next year?
